The Outside Is Perfect. Why Is the Inside a Mess?

How a frustration I couldn’t unsee became CAVO — and why I’m inviting you to be part of it from day one.

I am an industrial designer. I spent years working in cabinetry — not selling it, engineering it. I know how kitchens are built from the inside out. The millwork, the tolerances, the constraints that never show up in the renderings.

People spend serious money on custom kitchens. They obsess over finishes, hardware, proportions. Every detail is deliberate.

And then you open the drawer.

A plastic insert from one brand. A bamboo divider from another. Something from Amazon, bought at the last minute. Even in beautiful custom homes, the inside feels improvised.

“How can something be so intentional on the outside and so unresolved on the inside?”

That question stayed with me for years. And the more I looked at it, the more I realized the problem wasn’t bad products. It was the absence of a system.

The Store Problem

Walk into The Container Store. Walls of options. Everything looks organized. It feels professional.

But once you start choosing, it becomes overwhelming. So many sizes. So many “modular” pieces. You’re basically designing your own logic from scratch — and most people don’t want to do that. They just want it to work.

Even with custom cabinets, the responsibility still falls on you. You get this beautiful box, and what happens inside is your problem.

I kept thinking: why does the system stop at the cabinet door?

What I Wanted to Build

I didn’t want to sell containers. Anyone can sell containers. I didn’t want to add more options to the world. There are already too many.

What I wanted was something that guides you. Something that carries the thinking for you. Not freedom without limits — that’s stressful. Freedom inside something solid.

The goal was always calm. Not aesthetic calm. Structural calm. The kind that comes when you open a drawer and you don’t think about it. You just know where everything is.

This Is CAVO

CAVO is an AI-guided design tool that helps you create a custom drawer organizer built exactly for your life — your items, your drawer, your habits.

You have a conversation with the assistant. You tell it what lives in your drawer. It calculates the exact dimensions for each compartment, generates a layout, and produces a file ready for 3D printing.

Every module is its own printed part. Nothing is shared. Nothing is improvised. It fits your drawer and nothing else — because it was designed for your drawer and nothing else.

Drawers are just the beginning. But they’re the right place to start. Small, intimate, used every day. If you can create trust inside a drawer, you can scale that logic to cabinets, closets, whole homes.
